Website UCI MIND - UCI Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC)

The Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) at the University of California Irvine, under the direction of Drs. Frank LaFerla and Joshua Grill, is pleased to announce the availability of funding for developmental projects. These projects are for up to two years of funding at $100,000/year (direct costs) with a start date of March 1, 2024.

This funding competition is open to all UC Irvine faculty members (senate and non-senate), with preference for investigators who are pre-tenured and/or new to the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias research. Proposals that incorporate concerns of ethnically and racially diverse populations; use ADRC Core resources (longitudinal research participants, pathological and other tissue specimens, and clinical and pathological data-sets, etc.), including the special populations followed within the ADRC (Down syndrome, oldest old, and individuals with or at risk for Alzheimer’s disease) will be given priority for funding. Available clinical data consist of annual cognitive assessments, clinical diagnoses, co-morbidities, family history, and demographics.

Projects will be selected after expert peer review based on scientific merit and the anticipated strength of the pilot data to support future research proposal development for external funding.

Submission requirements:

  • NIH Biosketch including current and pending “other support”
  • 5-page NIH-type proposal, maximum 5 pages, including references (proposals that fail to comply with page limitations will not be reviewed)
  • NIH-type budget page and budget justification for a 2 year period
  • Letters of support (as necessary)

All application materials must be submitted electronically to this link https://sites.uci.edu/adrc/projects by the deadline of 5:00PM PST October 6, 2023.
